Powder mills

This is an old favourite venue. Usually fishes really well. Saw a few fish come out but it went really quiet in the early afternoon ( usually the quiet time ). No visible fish or surface action.

It was a misty morning which opened up into a lovely mild afternoon.

Tried all the common flies - fast and slow / high up and deep down. worked a wide are covering close to the banks and out into the middle. A bit of the summer weed was there and the top end of the lake was quite murky still. ( buggers / montanas / red buzzers / daddylonglegs / cats whisker / orange blob / boobies ).

Still glad I went.

I am keen for a rematch soon.

Redbournbury Fishery

3 fish taken in the early afternoon. about 2 pounds each - a bit scrappy. taken on woolly bugger and montana.

buzzers had no interest.

Hertfordshire. Redbourn.

Went for a little afternoon session up at redbourn. 29/8

Bit of a tough session. started on a montana and got immediate action. but after 4 casts it went still and i didnt get another look. Redbourn is were we discovered the powers of the red buzzers so i tied one on and gave it a try. nothing at all. the last pattern i tried was a bloodworm pattern that i had cut short. this gave me 4 good fish - the usual redbourn 2 pounders.

Perhaps it was the weather - but all 4 gave really good sport punching well above their weight and each taking a while to get to the bank. This was the second outing of my new 6 weight stillwater setup and i am now very pleased with it.

The venue is coming along very nicely too - we have been fishign there for several years now and its maturing into a very nice place for an easy afternoon session.

Syon park - Part 1

I hadn't been fishing for about 6 weeks - maybe longer. We decided to head to Syon park as its a quick 30 minute drive to get to and is one of the most convenient locations for a fly fisher based in north London.

Much to our surprise the lake was frozen over but we decided that seen as we were there we might as well give it a try. There were two small sections of the lake that weren't frozen on the end of the lake farthest from the parking area.

This one was caught on a red buzzer retrieved slowly. The take was very gentle with the leader just disappearing gently. The fish gave an excelent account of itself after a gentle beginning.

It was rather cold and we left with hands burning from the cold.
